“The Jewish Council for Racial Equality (JCORE) was deeply saddened to hear that a 16 year Sudanese boy has drowned while trying to cross the English Channel. This tragic death was completely avoidable, and comes as a consequence of failures to prevent vulnerable refugees from being forced into desperate journeys. Recent rhetoric from the Prime Minister and Home Secretary has sought to demonize and criminalize those seeking sanctuary in the UK. The government must reflect and take the moral responsibility to prevent any further lives being lost, by providing safe and legal routes to this country.”
