REFUGEE DOCTOR'S PROJECT

For over half a century, refugee doctors arriving in Britain have encountered enormous difficulties in resuming their professional careers. Many factors have contributed to this, from lack of information and practical support, to indifference from the medical establishment and populist racism.

We formed a Refugee Doctors Group in 1996 in partnership with other individuals and organisations. The group initiated a number of practical projects, including:

  • Information days that were attended by over 100 refugee doctors;
  • Guide for Refugee Doctors, the 6th edition of which is now in production.
This campaign is an excellent illustration of the way JCORE can make a key contribution to society as a catalyst for change by identifying an injustice; bring together those with an interest; and involving organisation who can help.
