Connections: Hidden British Histories

Date: Tuesday 3rd March at 8pm

at: Edgware & District Reform Synagogue, 118 Stonegrove, Edgware, Middlesex, HA8 8AB

In today's Europe ethnic diversity is mixed with growing racism and intolerance. Because of this, it is particularly important for us all to make links with other communities. In this session we will be looking at JCORE's exhibition Connections, which looks into the hidden histories of Asian, Jewish and Black people in Britain. We will discuss different Jewish experiences of migration and ask how these connect with the experiences of others from Eastern Europe.

They Come Over Here...

Date: Tuesday 10th March at 8pm

at: Edgware & District Reform Synagogue, 118 Stonegrove, Edgware, Middlesex, HA8 8AB

Kate Davies, from YouGov (the leading professional research organisation in public opinion) will be joining us to look at how the media portrays East European immigrants. For far too long in times of economic hardship, immigrants have been hijacked and abused by the press and politicians whipping up hysteria and fear. Join us to look beyond the tabloid headlines and discuss the Jewish obligation to respond.

The Margate Exodus

Date: Wednesday 18th March at 8pm

at: The Hub Islington, 5 Torrens Street, London EC1V 1NQ.

The Margate Exodus is a contemporary re-telling of the Book of Exodus, the story of Moses and his search for the promised land. It is a story about identity and migration, written and directed for Channel Four by filmmaker Penny Woolcock. Shot on location in Margate, a seaside resort in Kent, nearby Dover is one of the main entry points for asylum seekers and illegal immigrants, making the area a perfect place to explore issues of identity, tolerance and social equality.

In association with: The Jewish Community Centre for London.
