Panel Discussion on Asylum Seekers 3pm, 28th
December 2008
What
is the current situation for asylum seekers in this country? Does the Jewish
community have any special obligations to be involved in this issue? What
can/is being done? And how come so many immigration judges are Jewish?
With
Dr Edie Friedman, Dr Rafi
Zarum, Vikki Prais and Tony Metzer.
Down and out in London and Manchester: 2-3:10pm, 29th
December 2008
How has one of the richest countries on the planet ended up with up to
250,000 failed asylum seekers living in abject poverty on its streets,
unable or too scared to return home? Find out from Claire Nacamuli from
JCORE and Hannah Weisfeld from the JCC how we've ended up in this situation,
what you can do to help and whether we really do have an obligation as Jews
to respond.
Volunteering in and Across the Community :12:30 - 1:40, 30th December 2008
This session will explore Jewish concepts and values of volunteerism and
the positive, long-lasting impact that volunteering can have on the lives of
many people, including the volunteers themselves. Participants will also
gain a deeper understanding of the power of volunteering from those engaged
on the front-line of a variety of Jewish volunteer organisations, and have
the chance to learn about new, exciting volunteer opportunities across the
community.
