“I always think that the real offenders at the half-way mark of the last century were the bystanders – all those people who let things happen because it didn’t affect them directly.”

The Safe Space is a series of workshops developed by the JCC and JCORE and led by people who work in the field of immigration and asylum. Come along, get involved and join the discussion.

Every year thousands of women and children are sex trafficked around the world. Many are brought to the UK on false pretences of a better life and are subjected to abuse and exploitation. Derek Wax, producer of the film Sex Traffic, and Denise Marshall, Chief Executive of Eaves, a London-based charity that provides housing and support to vulnerable women, and campaigns to prevent all forms of violence against women, will discuss, alongside clips of the film, how sex trafficking has been able to flourish and whether legislation is effectively protecting the lives of those caught up in the industry.

The panel will be chaired by Tricia Young, the trustee for Eaves responsible for the POPPY project, which works with trafficked women and founder of Odanadi UK, which supports an organisation in Mysore, India, working to combat human trafficking.

This event is supported by the Pears Foundation
