Over 3000 asylum-seeking children arrive in the UK on
their own every year. The coming festive season is a special time for family and
friends, but for these young people it can be a particularly difficult and
lonely experience.
Being part of
JCORE’s befriending project JUMP, means that a young person has someone to
spend time with and talk to. JUMP also organises group activities so that they
can make friends with other young asylum seekers in similar situations.
During Chanukah, as
we celebrate the miracle of a simple drop of oil sustaining a community, JCORE offers you the chance to
help brighten the life of a
young asylum seeker in the UK today.
On the 8 nights of Chanukah there are
8 things you can support. Which will you choose?
1st night:
£5 buys a hot meal for a
young asylum seeker living alone
2nd night: £10
buys a dual language dictionary –an often priceless gift
3rd night: £15 enables
a young person to be befriended for a month
4th night: £20
pays for stationery necessary for their studies
5th night:
£25 funds travel
for 6 months for one young refugee
6th night: £30
buys a mobile phone top-up so support is only a call away
7th night:
£50 buys seasonal gifts for 10 young
people
8th night: £100
funds a rare day out for a group of 20 young refugees.
